Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Sarah Geisbüsch-Ebeling

SPECIALIST IN VASCULAR SURGERY AND PHLEBOLOGY

PD Dr. Sarah Geisbüsch-Ebeling studied medicine at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich from 2001 to 2008. During her studies, she gained clinical experience at King’s College Hospital in London, the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, and Jikei University in Tokyo. In 2008, she received her doctorate with the distinction of magna cum laude.

She began her surgical residency in 2008 at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the German Heart Center Munich under Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Lange. From 2010 to 2012, she conducted research as a postdoctoral research fellow at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York under Prof. Randall B. Griepp, one of the pioneers of modern aortic surgery. Her work conducted there on the blood supply to the spinal cord and on preventing paraplegia during aortic surgery was published in the *Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery* and the *Annals of Thoracic Surgery*.

In 2013, she continued her training at the University Hospital of Zurich under Prof. Dr. Volkmar Falk, and subsequently at the Department of Vascular Surgery at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich under Prof. Dr. Thomas Koeppel. From 2015 to 2018, she worked in the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Klinikum rechts der Isar of the Technical University of Munich under Prof. Dr. Hans-Henning Eckstein. It was there that she conducted her nationwide analyses of the treatment of aortic aneurysms and dissections in Germany. In 2018, she received board certification in vascular surgery, followed by her habilitation in 2019.

From 2018 to 2026, PD Dr. Geisbüsch-Ebeling worked at a vascular surgery practice in Mainz and Bad Kreuznach, specializing during this time in the diagnosis and treatment of venous diseases. In 2020, she earned the additional certification in phlebology. Since 2026, she has been part of the medical team at Phlebicum in the private vein clinic on Schillerplatz in Mainz. She performs outpatient vein procedures at the Wiesbaden Vein Center.

Science

PD Dr. Geisbüsch-Ebeling has published a number of scientific articles. Her research focuses primarily on diseases of the aorta: the blood supply to the spinal cord during aortic surgery, the growth of aortic aneurysms, and the management of aortic aneurysms and dissections in Germany. These have appeared in publications such as the *Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery*, the *Journal of Vascular Surgery*, and the *European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery*.
