Prof. Giers studied biology and medicine. he received his doctorate in medicine in 1986, followed by a doctorate in natural sciences in 1987. he became a professor in 2011. For many years, he was senior consultant and deputy director at the Institute of Haemostaseology and Transfusion Medicine at the University of Düsseldorf. He has had his own practice for coagulation physiology and transfusion medicine at the Phlebicum since 2018.
