Botox for wrinkle treatment: effective solutions for a smooth complexion

If you don't want to accept natural signs of ageing such as wrinkles as a fateful expression of biology, but want to look fresher and possibly more in keeping with your "inner age" without considering surgery, you can reduce your wrinkles with botulinum.

When treating mimic wrinkles ("frown lines", "worry lines" or the "crow's feet" at the outer corner of the eye), we use botulinum, commonly known as "Botox". Botulinum is a "tension blocker" that blocks the transmission of the command to contract from the nerve to the muscle for approximately 6-9 months. Botulinum is a naturally occurring bacterial protein. When it is injected into the muscle, it specifically blocks the nerve impulses there. As a result, the muscle cannot contract as usual and the wrinkle is smoothed out after 3 to 5 days.

Botox against wrinkles: How it works and what to expect

Botox, or botulinum toxin, is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is used for medical and cosmetic purposes. In aesthetic medicine, Botox is mainly used to reduce mimic wrinkles.

Effect of Botox:

Blockade of nerve impulses. Botox temporarily blocks the nerve impulses to the treated muscles by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contraction.

Inhibition of the muscles. By inhibiting the muscles, their ability to contract is reduced or suspended. This leads to temporary paralysis of the treated muscles.

Relaxation of the skin. As the treated muscles are relaxed, the overlying skin becomes smoother and existing wrinkles are reduced or disappear.

Results of wrinkle treatment with Botox:

Reduction of expression lines. Botox is particularly effective in the treatment of mimic wrinkles caused by repeated muscle contractions, such as forehead wrinkles, frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) and crow's feet around the eyes.

Prevention of new wrinkles. Botox can also be used preventively to prevent the formation of new wrinkles by reducing the contraction of the muscles responsible for the formation of these wrinkles.

Fast results. The results of Botox treatments are usually visible quickly, often within a few days to a week after the injection.

Temporary effect. The effects of Botox are not permanent. It usually lasts for around three to six months. After this period, a top-up treatment may be required to maintain the effect.

However, Botox is not suitable for all types of wrinkles, especially wrinkles caused by volume loss or other skin problems.

How does wrinkle treatment with Botox work?

Botox wrinkle treatment is a non-surgical procedure in which botulinum toxin, the main ingredient in Botox, is injected into the muscles to reduce or temporarily block muscle contraction. This is how the treatment works:

Apreliminaryconsultation takes place before the treatment. During this consultation, the patient's wishes and expectations are discussed, the areas to be treated are identified and the treatment plan is explained. The patient's medical history is also clarified. It is important that there are no contraindications.

Cleaning and anesthesia. The areas to be treated are cleaned and usually no anesthesia is required. However, a few patients prefer a local anesthetic cream.

Injection of Botox. We use a very fine needle to inject Botox into the pre-determined muscles. The number of injections and the amount of Botox will depend on the specific treatment goals. The procedure itself usually only takes a few minutes.

No downtime. After treatment, the patient can usually return to their daily activities immediately. However, we recommend avoiding intense physical activity for the first few hours after treatment.

5.Aftercare and results: The results of Botox are not usually visible immediately. It takes a few days to about a week for the muscle inhibition to set in and the wrinkles to become smoother. The results are temporary and usually last for about three to six months. Refresher treatments can be carried out to maintain the effect.

It is important to note that injections must be precisely placed to achieve optimal results and minimize unwanted side effects. Improper use of Botox can lead to asymmetry or other undesirable effects. The treatment should always be carried out by a qualified and experienced doctor.

7 reasons for choosing Botox as a wrinkle treatment

Seven reasons in favor of Botox in the treatment of wrinkles:

Effectiveness on mimic wrinkles. Botox is particularly effective in treating mimic wrinkles caused by repeated muscle contractions, such as forehead wrinkles, frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) and crow's feet around the eyes.

Fast results. The results of Botox treatments are usually visible quickly, often within a few days to a week after the injection. This makes Botox an attractive option for people who want rapid improvements.

Minimal downtime. In general, wrinkle treatment with Botox requires no or minimal downtime. Patients can usually return to their normal activities immediately.

Preventative effect. As well as smoothing existing wrinkles, Botox can also have a preventative effect by preventing new wrinkles from forming. This makes it particularly suitable for people who want to take preventative measures early on.

Customizable results. By precisely placing the injections, the doctor can control the intensity of the muscle relaxation and thus adapt the results to the patient's individual needs and aesthetics.

Short treatment time. A Botox treatment usually only takes a few minutes to perform, making it a time-saving option for those with busy lifestyles.

Little pain. Many patients report little pain during the injections. In addition, there is always the option of applying an anesthetic gel before the treatment.

Possible side effects and risks of Botox treatments

Botox treatments are generally considered safe, but as with any medical procedure, risks and side effects can occur.

Local reactions at the injection site such asredness, swelling, bruising. These can occur at the injection sites, but are usually temporary and subside within a few days.

Asymmetry or undesirable results due to uneven muscle relaxation. In rare cases, asymmetrical results may occur if the injections are not placed precisely or the muscles react unevenly to the botulinum toxin.

Allergic reactions and hypersensitivity reactions. Although allergic reactions are rare, some people may have an allergic reaction to botulinum toxin or other components of the product.

Muscle weakness in distant areas. In very rare cases, Botox can cause temporary muscle weakness in areas that have not been treated directly. However, this can be avoided by the doctor selecting the correct injection points.

Headaches or temporary discomfort. Some patients report mild headaches or temporary discomfort after treatment.

Temporary effect: The effect of Botox is not permanent and usually lasts about three to six months. Repeated treatments are required to maintain the effect.

Most of these side effects are usually mild and temporary. If unusual symptoms occur, medical help should be sought immediately.

Frequently asked questions about Botox treatment

The results of Botox are not usually visible immediately after treatment. It usually takes a few days to a week for the muscle paralysis to set in and the wrinkles to become smoother. The full effect usually occurs within about two weeks.

The effect of Botox is temporary and usually lasts around three to six months. The exact duration can vary from patient to patient. Refresher treatments are necessary to maintain the results. However, repeated treatments can often result in the effect lasting longer.

Most patients report only minor pain during Botox injections. However, the sensation of pain can vary from person to person. If necessary, it is possible to apply an anesthetic cream before treatment.
